As Chi Yan walked over and pulled out a chair to sit down, she saw that Shang Lu had already opened a can of milk and placed it in front of him. She then stood up, bent over, and handed a small bag of bread that had already been opened to his mouth, looking very attentive.

Chi Yan was not used to Shang Lu behaving so deliberately pleasing someone. Instead of taking the bread, he extended her index finger directly to her nose and pushed her head back slightly, saying, “That’s enough. If you have something to say, just say it.”

Chi Yan saw through Shang Lu’s thoughts with just one glance, even though she hadn’t thought about hiding anything. She mumbled, “It’s a good thing I didn’t have nose surgery; otherwise, you’d be in trouble.”

Thinking back to the last time they played cards, when Ye Lu had pressed Lin Yanyan’s nose with a sticker, which had angered Lin Yanyan and led her to chase after him, yelling, “If you press any harder, you’ll have to pay for the repair!”

Hearing Shang Lu say this, Chi Yan still didn’t let his hand off, even intentionally pushing her nose up a bit more. He said, “Is that so? Then let’s turn you into a pig’s nose and see.”

Shang Lu sat down in the chair, and this time, Chi Yan bent over and looked at her intently.

Shang Lu playfully grinned at Chi Yan, saying, “If you don’t let go, I’ll bite you.”

Chi Yan casually responded, “I’m so scared.”

Shang Lu then raised her head as if she were going to bite Chi Yan’s hand, and just as Chi Yan was about to pull his hand back, her teeth unexpectedly touched his index finger joint. Both of them froze at the same time.

The warmth of her mouth enveloped his cold finger, and her tongue accidentally brushed against the fingertip, causing this strange ambiguity to peak in an instant.

Shang Lu realized what happened and immediately let go, saying, “I didn’t mean to!”

“Yeah,” Chi Yan responded, not appearing to be very concerned about this unexpected incident. He raised his index finger to examine the bite mark Shang Lu had left and praised, “You have good teeth.”

After that, he bent over, reached out, and pinched Shang Lu’s face, smiling and saying, “But I’m a forgiving person, so I’ll let it slide.”

He didn’t use much force, but Shang Lu’s facial skin was too delicate, so even this gentle pinch left some red marks.

Distracted, Shang Lu couldn’t help but comment, “Why did you pinch me? Who forgives someone while seeking revenge at the same time? Petty!”

Chi Yan replied nonchalantly, “Wiping my hand.”

Shang Lu : “…”

She couldn’t argue with that.

Then she handed him a tissue and said, “Wipe your hand.”

Chi Yan didn’t take it, only asking, “Alright, speak up. What’s the matter so early in the morning?”

Only then did Shang Lu remember the real issue and asked him seriously, “Are you free today?”

Chi Yan thought for a moment, then answered confidently after making up his mind, “I’m free in the morning.”

Hearing Chi Yan’s affirmative answer, Shang Lu couldn’t wait to retrieve his script from the coffee table and asked, “Can you help me practice acting?”

“Sure, but why me?” Chi Yan seemed a bit puzzled and then asked, “I’m not a professional actor. Why don’t you find… Xu Ze?”

When asked this question, Shang Lu thought for a moment and answered honestly, “I feel like your personality is somewhat similar to the character.”

The character Shang Lu played was the youngest sister, and her brother was a lawless little tyrant, which reminded Shang Lu of Chi Yan from their high school days.

Hearing Shang Lu’s explanation, Chi Yan became interested and reached out for the script.

After taking the script, he flipped through a few pages and then said directly, “Okay, let’s do it.”

Shang Lu handed Chi Yan two sandwiches and said, “No rush, let’s finish breakfast first.”

As Shang Lu spoke, she opened a bottle of milk for herself and was about to take a sip when Chi Yan grabbed her wrist.

“Wait, let me heat it up for you,” Chi Yan said and walked to the kitchen with the bottle of milk in hand.

Shang Lu was slightly surprised.

A dull pain in her abdomen was reminding her that her period was approaching. She suffered from severe menstrual cramps, so she had already taken painkillers, and she was feeling okay at the moment.

But… how did Chi Yan know?

Shang Lu found it strange. She was the type of person who couldn’t hide anything from those close to her, so she couldn’t help but ask directly, “How did you know I’m on my period?”

Chi Yan answered somewhat awkwardly, “Back in high school, I bought you painkillers a few times.”

Shang Lu : “?!?”

Did that really happen?

Wait a minute, she seemed to recall it now.

Her period wasn’t always regular during her adolescence, and sometimes she didn’t have painkillers with her in time. The school infirmary would also contact her family when prescribing medication, so she simply endured it.

However, for some reason, she would always find the necessary painkillers in her drawer when she returned after boiling water, along with… brown sugar water from the convenience store.

At that time, she didn’t have many friends and thought it was a kind-hearted female classmate secretly helping her, but she never imagined it was Chi Yan.

Shang Lu found it strange and asked, “How did you get the painkillers from the infirmary?”

Chi Yan replied calmly, “I wrapped a bandage around my leg and pretended to have a broken bone to act in front of the doctor.”

Shang Lu : “…”

Well, Chi Yan’s acting skills would have been a loss if he hadn’t entered the entertainment industry later.

But Shang Lu still couldn’t understand and asked, “Why didn’t you just give it to me directly?”

“Are you kidding me, Young Lady?” Chi Yan placed a hot milk in front of Shang Lu, avoiding eye contact somewhat, and replied confidently, “I was a high school second grade teenager with a group of little followers back then. Do you understand what it means to be a school bully? Doing such things doesn’t fit my image, you know?”

Shang Lu chuckled at his response and said, “Young Master Chi, were you busy building your own image back then? Indeed, I don’t know how many girls had a crush on you in high school.”

Regarding Shang Lu’s remark, Chi Yan really wanted to ask her : What about you?

But it was a question that didn’t have much significance.

So Chi Yan didn’t respond to her words but said, “Let’s eat quickly, and after that, I’ll help your practice.”

“Okay,” Shang Lu agreed. She then peeled an orange, but halfway through, she found the peel too tough on her nails. She handed it to Chi Yan to finish peeling, with each of them taking half.

After the meal, Chi Yan practiced acting with her. His voice, tinged with a playful tone, sounded indescribably lazy as he recited his lines. It was particularly pleasant to listen to.

“Why care about that house? That place isn’t a home at all.”
“Why cry? That man has already left.”
“Alright, wipe away your tears. If your precious painting gets wet, don’t come looking for me to compensate. I’ve already spent all my living expenses.”

Shang Lu also tried to play her role. She portrayed a weak and hesitant character, lowering her head and trying to persuade her brother, “But we can’t not go back. Otherwise, he’ll beat us, and he’ll beat Mom too.”

“He’s just an old scoundrel; don’t be afraid of him,” Chi Yan stood up, but instead of hugging Shang Lu directly as written in the script, he just covered her eyes with his hand, saying, “He will die, for sure.”

In front of her were darkness and a gentle embrace.

Her memories went back to a summer day in high school when Chi Yan had come to stop her from waiting for Jiang Yi.

It was already dark outside, and suddenly, a ferocious dog appeared at the school gate.

And the security booth was empty, the school gate was already closed.

At that moment, she wanted to escape but didn’t dare to make a move at all.

Just when that wild dog was approaching, she was scared and wanted to cry but didn’t dare to run, Chei Yan appeared.

He did the same, covering her eyes with one hand and awkwardly patting her shoulder with the other to comfort her.

—”It’s just a beast, what’s there to be afraid of? It’s really troublesome… Don’t cry, hold onto my sleeve, I’ll take you home.”

—”He’s just an old beast, don’t be afraid of him. He will die, for sure.”

One true, one false, one is reality, and the other is a script.

But at this moment, it seems like the two voices are overlapping.
