Chi Yan’s first reaction was naturally to hug Shang Lu to prevent her from falling.

Chi Yan completely put his arm around Shang Lu’s shoulder with one hand, and then he protected her by slightly turning her body in a different direction, completely blocking the space between her and the little boy, with one hand pressing against the little boy’s forehead.

This scene suddenly became comical.

Chi Yan’s hand was like a wall, and the little boy seemed to not have realized what had happened yet. He was still crying and running there, but he couldn’t move forward anymore.

Perhaps realizing that no matter how hard he ran, he couldn’t leave that spot, he simply sat down on the ground and began to cry loudly.

At this moment, Shang Lu finally regained her composure, holding Chi Yan’s waist to stabilize herself. She first created some distance between the two, then placed one hand on her own waist and looked at the little boy still crying on the ground.

Immediately, a woman carrying groceries rushed over, quickly lifting her son off the ground and apologizing repeatedly to them, saying that her child had ADHD and it was not intentional.

There was no other choice in this situation, so Shang Lu could only wave her hand to indicate understanding. However, her other hand was still tightly holding onto Chi Yan’s arm.

Chi Yan furrowed her brows slightly and asked, “Is it very painful?”

“Yes,” Shang Lu nodded and tentatively touched her own back with her hand, then complained with a bitter face, “I shouldn’t have worn just a thin shirt because this supermarket has air conditioning. If I had worn a hoodie, it wouldn’t have been so bad.”

Upon returning home,

Shang Lu stood in front of the living room mirror, lifting up her shirt with one hand to inspect her lower back.

A small bruise.

But it wasn’t too severe, considering that bumps and bruises during filming were common. She often had bruises like this during her filming period.

Shang Lu comforted herself this way, but when she touched that bruise with her fingertips, her face changed color due to the pain.

The doorbell rang.

Shang Lu put down her shirt and walked to the door.

Standing outside was Chi Yan, holding a small ice pack, and said, “Apply this.”

“Okay,” Shang Lu agreed. She didn’t reach out for the ice pack but naturally leaned on the sofa, lifting her shirt up.

Chi Yan didn’t respond.

Only then did Shang Lu, who was lying on the sofa, realize that she wasn’t on the film set but in her own home, and the person behind her was not her assistant but Chi Yan.

Shang Lu was just about to get up and say, ‘Thank you so much, but I can handle it myself,’ but she already felt the cold sensation of an ice pack being gently pressed against her lower back, as well as the brief and unintentional touch of the man’s slightly rough fingertips against her skin, causing her body to shiver slightly.

Shang Lu didn’t turn around, but she could feel Chi Yan’s gaze directly on her, on her exposed skin to be precise.

Shang Lu found it strange but before she could ask, she heard Chi Yan’s voice with a hint of suppressed emotion, ‘…What’s the story behind the scar on your back?’

Chi Yan’s gaze stayed fixed.

The fair and delicate skin was already bruised and unsightly, but it couldn’t be seen for the moment under the ice pack.

However, there was a scar further up.

“A scar?” Shang Lu didn’t react immediately because her back was an area she couldn’t see in her daily life. After Chi Yan’s question, it took her a moment to recall and say, “It’s from a long time ago.”

Chi Yan, however, asked her directly, “Is it from filming or because of Jiang Yi?”

“…Jiang Yi.”

Shang Lu didn’t want to lie to Chi Yan. After answering, she buried her face in the pillow but added, “It’s in the past.”

Indeed, it had been a long time ago. She had wanted to bring lunch she had made herself for Jiang Yi, but he had hastily pushed her away when Ning Lin arrived. In the room at the time, there was a thumbtack on the wall, which had scratched her back in that manner.

It had been so long that she had long since forgotten it.

In any case, injuries from filming were common, and as long as they didn’t affect her work or were visible on her skin, Shang Lu didn’t pay much attention to them. She didn’t even bother with surgery to remove the scars.

She heard Chi Yan’s voice repeating her words, “Yeah, it’s in the past.”

For Wenren Yan, he felt that there were two strange things happening in the capital recently.

First, it seemed like his good friend had gone mad.

When Wenren Yan called Chi Yan for a video chat, hoping to get the latest secrets to pass a new game, he saw Chi Yan about to cook, wearing an apron and then putting on a windbreaker over it.

Uh… up to this point, it still seemed somewhat normal.

But who could tell him, who in their right mind would put on an apron and then intentionally wear a windbreaker over it?!

What was the point of the apron then? Is Chi Yan crazy!

However, after finding out that the apron was a gift from Shang Lu, Wenren Yan just said, “Okay, I’ll shut up.”

The second strange thing was also quite peculiar.

He heard that Jiang Yi had been beaten up by his own father, which, at first glance, didn’t seem like a big deal.

The strangest thing is that it seems like his dad targeted his lower back when he was beating him. Jiang Yi ended up in the hospital for several days and didn’t get up throughout the entire ordeal.

What kind of grudge could there possibly be between this father and son?

More importantly, why beat a man and specifically target his lower back? Is it as if he wants to end his family line? This is really outrageous.

Soon, it was the official broadcast day of <Life’s Journey>.

On that evening, the local TV station’s ratings immediately exceeded 1.5, and they continued to rise. The combination of realistic plotlines and investigative processes, the unraveling of mysteries from the beginning, intense conflicts, and a fast-paced storyline attracted countless viewers who joined in discussions.

[Wuwuwu, <Life’s Journey> is so good; I’ve been crying from the beginning. Every supporting actor’s performance is excellent.]

[Especially Jiang Jing, she plays the female cop sister so calmly and charmingly. Bravo!]

[Director Han Cheng is truly amazing. This show has a great concept, and the details are exceptional. Each story is very representative.]

[Why do I feel like I see a bit of Song Zeqian in some places… Is it just my imagination?]

[You’re right, previous commenter. Check the credits, and you’ll find Song Zeqian. He probably helped with the script.]

[I can already predict that <Life’s Journey> will win awards at various domestic festivals.”]

[From the screenwriters and directors to every crew member and supporting actor, it’s only been a few episodes, and there are no flaws. I haven’t watched a show without fast-forwarding in a long time.]

While the storyline featuring Shang Lu had not been officially aired, because it is a central thread connecting all the stories, several shots of Shang Lu appeared in the early episodes. Just these several shots were enough to generate discussion on the internet.

Netizens expressed their amazement:

[Why are there so few scenes with Shang Lu, but every moment makes me want to watch them repeatedly?]

[Agree +1, while all the stories are captivating, I’m currently most excited about Shang Lu.]

[Her face is just too beautiful and full of depth. That kind of elegance and beauty, like a diamond on the brink of shattering. Tragedy shows meaningful things to everyone; I want to see her breakthrough (sorry, I’m a bit twisted).]

As <Life’s Journey> continued to gain popularity, Shang Lu received a message from screenwriter Yu Qi about a new script. She was informed that the script was already written, and the core team from <Life’s Journey> would remain largely unchanged. Yu Qi asked if she had any available dates and suggested they meet for an audition after she had a chance to review the script.

Shang Lu naturally responded immediately:

[Of course, I’m available!]
[I’m going to record the variety show this weekend, so I’m free anytime next week. I’m available for the next two weeks!]

Recently, there were several scripts offered to Shang Lu, some of which were quite promising. However, after some hesitation, she didn’t accept any of them because she remembered the conversation with Han Cheng and Yu Qi, and her heart leaned toward working with them again. Especially when Yu Qi mentioned that the core team and <Life’s Journey> remained unchanged, she became even more excited.

Shang Lu naturally knew how strong the members of the Han Cheng drama team were. They were all top-notch individuals from various industries, and being part of such a team meant constantly learning new things.

  1. Wait so it was a mystery series? I figured it wasn’t because they didn’t even try to keep Shang Lu’s character under wraps

  2. I wish the author fleshed out her acting career and roles with a proper. I’m so lost which drama is airing. Is it the role in which she murders her parents or her recent role in which siblings murder their father? Or which one?

    1. Where she is a “successful” actress due to the pressure from her parents and she ends up killing them.
The second show/movie (I’m not sure what it is) is about her being a psychopath killing her classmates not her siblings
