Please Like Her 05 – Stealing radishes, oh, stealing radishes

Xiao Mi couldn’t help but laugh.

What money did the family spend on her? Her tuition was waived due to her excellent grades, the cost of textbooks was covered by Teacher Qi Qin, and her stationery was a reward for every exam. Except for those barely filling potatoes, even the eggs were only her brother’s portion every time.

Xiao Mi had just wanted to retort but felt Shang Lu’s grip on her hand tighten slightly.

Shang Lu shook her head towards Xiao Mi and even gave Xiao Mi a reassuring smile.

Shang Lu turned to Grandpa Qi and also smiled, saying, “Of course, you’ve raised Xiaomi for so many years. If you’re willing to let her go with me, I would appreciate it, and you won’t be left empty-handed.”

As Shang Lu spoke, she ‘casually’ raised her hand, revealing the two gold bracelets on her left wrist.

She had originally worn them just because she thought they looked good, but now they were quite impressive, serving as proof of her wealth.

Both grandparents’ eyes widened.

Those were real gold, and city folk were certainly wealthy!

Shang Lu smiled gently and continued, “But right now, we have a TV show to film, so it’s not convenient to chat too much. After we finish shooting, I’ll arrange for someone to talk to you. Is that okay?”

Grandma Qi’s expression instantly changed, returning to the kind demeanor she had before they entered the house. “Sure, of course, whenever is convenient for you.”

Grandpa Qi, seeing how ‘thoughtful’ Shang Lu was, naturally wouldn’t give her a hard time. However, he had already started to calculate how much money would be appropriate.

Instead of leaving immediately, Shang Lu walked over to the young boy and used a tissue to wipe away the oil stains at the corner of his lips.

She asked, “If your sister leave with me, she won’t come back. Think about it carefully, and tell me if you’re willing.”

The young boy didn’t need to think at all; he just asked her, “If I give you my sister, will you give money?”

Shang Lu replied, “I will.”

The young boy immediately turned to his grandma and said, “Grandma! Then I want to eat pig’s trotters!”

He didn’t answer Shang Lu’s question directly but gave his response with action.

He not only was willing to sell his sister but was already thinking about what delicious things he could buy with the money from selling his sister.

As for the old couple, one was originally angry, and the other wanted to maintain their dignity. However, after hearing that Shang Lu would pay, they both completely dropped their act. Grandma Qi eagerly replied, “Sure, sure, my amazing grandson, whatever you want to eat, Grandma will buy it for you.”

Why bother with it so much?

A worthless girl, not particularly good-looking either, wouldn’t fetch a good price when married off. Now, this was like a pie falling from the sky, a stroke of good luck.

Shang Lu’s eyes flashed with a hint of disgust, and she didn’t hide it either.

She just turned around and walked up to Xiao Mi, extending a hand towards her, and said, “Then come with me.”

Unlike the previously indifferent and reclusive girl, Xiao Mi’s eyes were a bit timid at this moment. She looked sad and helpless, but more than that, she seemed confused.

Then she asked, “If I go with you, will you really support my education?”

“Yes,” Shang Lu nodded, and then said to her, “I will take you to the best school and hire the best teachers for you.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Mi finally made up her mind completely and placed her hand in Shang Lu’s hand.

But the next moment, she instinctively wanted to withdraw it.

Shang Lu’s hand was white and slender, and the moment they touched, she felt it was very soft and comfortable to touch.

She, on the other hand, was different. Her hand was very dark and unattractive, with calluses from doing farm work, and an ugly scar.

Comparing the two, Xiao Mi suddenly felt a bit inferior for a moment. She even feared that her hand might hurt Shang Lu’s hand.

However, she couldn’t retract it in time because Shang Lu had already held her hand and was leading her outside.

They crossed the fence one after the other.

The wind blew against their faces, but it couldn’t lift the strand of hair clipped by a hairpin.

It’s unclear how much time had passed, maybe one minute, three minutes, or five minutes.

Xiao Mi said in a muffled voice, “But I don’t want you to give them money.”

She was selfish. They didn’t want her, and she didn’t want them to live too well.

“Don’t worry, I just fooled them,” Shang Lu looked at Xiao Mi with a smiling expression and said, “I’m just too lazy to argue with them. Their mindset is already rotten, and saying anything to them is pointless. Their clear attitude of not letting you continue your education has been recorded by the camera. It’s illegal not to let a child complete junior high school. To be honest, I don’t know much about custody issues, and your grandparents probably understand even less. Anyway, if you’re willing to go with me, that’s fine. After we go back, I’ll hire someone specialized to negotiate. If we should give them something, I will, but as for them trying to use me to make money for your younger brother’s house, that’s just a dream.

“After we return, you can live with me first. I’ll hire a teacher to tutor you at home first, and once you catch up with the school curriculum, we can proceed with the enrollment process. I’m usually quite busy with work and won’t have time to take care of you, so I think it would be best for you to attend a boarding school. It’s convenient for your daily life, and I can just inform the security at the gate that they shouldn’t let anyone in, so it won’t affect your studies or life.”

It’s quite a coincidence that not long ago, when Shang Lu and Ou Yi were on the same drama set, Shang Lu just found out that Ou Yi’s father actually runs a renowned law firm in the capital city, which is perfect because she can just seek their help.

Anyway, as long as Xiao Mi is willing to go with her, they will find a way.

As for the elderly couple, the higher their hopes are right now, dreaming that they can get rich by selling their granddaughter, the greater their disappointment will be in the end.

[“I just fooled them”, “I’m just too lazy to argue with them”, “Although I don’t understand, your grandparents must understand even less.” Hahaha, Shang Lu, you’re really something.]

[I was hoping Shang Lu could teach those two old folks a lesson in humanity, but now that I think about it, it’s really not necessary; they’re already rotten.]

[I think Shang Lu was giving Xiao Mi’s little brother a chance before leaving, asking him was a test… it’s a pity, though, the kid has already gone bad.]

[A child raised on his sister’s blood, it’s not surprising at all.]

[Shang Lu is so serious about all of this; she has already thought about how to arrange Xiao Mi’s future so quickly?]

[Xiao Mi loves to study, and Shang Lu can provide her with a great environment; it’s really wonderful.]

Xiao Mi was also surprised.

In such a short time, it seemed that the person in front of her had already completely planned out her future.

It wasn’t a sudden whim or impulse, but a genuine, thoughtful consideration of her future.

After confirming all these unknown factors, Shang Lu was still willing to choose her.

Xiao Mi bit her lip and said, “I’ll listen to you. I’ll pay you back the money, I… I will repay you.”

However, Shang Lu patted her head and said in an indifferent tone, “Why think so much? Just focus on your studies.”

As they spoke, they returned to the house arranged by the program team.

Shang Lu took a deep breath, and her voice became cheerful, “It’s the smell of braised pork ribs! Let’s go home and eat! I’m here, Sister Jiang Jing!”

Xiao Mi : “?”

Watching Shanglu’s back, she suddenly felt like laughing, then crying, but in the end, she forced a smile.

As expected, they had braised pork ribs for dinner. They found out that it was because Jiang Jing had also completed a challenge from the program team at home, which earned them this hearty dinner with meat and vegetables.

Shang Lu was the first to return, so she helped wash the vegetables.

Xiao Mi quickly followed, not saying anything, just took the vegetable basin from Shang Lu’s hand and started washing them.

Shang Lu said, “Let’s split the work.”

Xiao Mi responded directly, “Cauliflower is not easy to wash. Do you want to eat ones with bugs?”

Shang Lu obediently withdrew her hand, “Please.”

In fact, Xiao Mi just didn’t want Shang Lu’s hands to touch the cold water.

The water was very cold, and it had recently gotten colder. Shang Lu’s beautiful hands turned slightly red after just a moment in the cold water.

But it didn’t matter to Xiao Mi; her hands were not pretty to begin with.

After Xiao Mi had finished washing the cauliflower, Shang Lu brought her a cup of hot water. “Warm your hands.”

Xiao Mi held the cup of water, while Shang Lu’s hand rested on the back of Xiaomi’s hands, warming them for her.

Xiao Mi lowered her gaze, observing Shang Lu’s little actions, but didn’t say anything.
