Chapter 18 – Acting Out of Spite

Meiqiu couldn’t hear what they were talking about from inside the cat carrier, but he could sense that something about the atmosphere was off.

Lin Yan’s brows gradually relaxed, though his expression still looked somewhat serious.

Looking out through the mesh of the carrier, Meiqiu saw a cat that looked exactly like himself — so identical that there was virtually no difference at all.

Lu Heng thought for a moment. Before coming here, he had smelled perfume on Lin Yan, a scent very similar to what filled this mall.

So I wasn’t brought here to work.

I was brought here to sell my sperm.

Lin Yan… Lin Yan.

Who would have thought you were this kind of person — actually planning to make a living by selling my body.

Ever since Lu Heng turned into a cat, he’d started paying attention to cat videos and often ended up seeing all kinds of strange things.

He remembered watching one where an owner used their cat as a breeding stud.

Each session earned quite a bit of money — around 2,000 or so.

Damn it.

Lu Heng was fuming. The little cat’s chest rose and fell rapidly.

Just because he went to the hospital once for being sick, this is how he has to pay it back?

And here he was thinking Lin Yan was an upright gentleman.

“Boss, this cat…” the clerk pointed at Tuanzi, then turned to look at Meiqiu.

“What’s wrong? I took Tuanzi out with me,” the owner said, adjusting the kitten in his arms.

The kitten also shifted and looked in Lin Yan’s direction. Inside the carrier, Meiqiu seemed to catch the unfamiliar scent of another cat.

“This is…?” the cat café owner noticed Lin Yan and the carrier he was holding.

The clerk looked a bit confused but still answered, “We thought Tuanzi had gone missing.”

“But Tuanzi’s right here,” the owner said, bouncing the kitten slightly in his arms. The kitten wriggled lazily, then burrowed into the owner’s armpit and rubbed against him.

At first glance, the kitten called Tuanzi did indeed look exactly like Meiqiu, but upon closer inspection, there were differences.

Tuanzi’s front paw pads were soft pink, without any mixed coloring.

Meiqiu’s were different — right in the center of his paw pad was a small black spot. Lin Yan often kissed Meiqiu’s little paw there.

It was the kind of detail you’d only notice after seeing it often, which meant Meiqiu was definitely not one of the café’s cats.

The clerk finally snapped out of it, his body no longer stiff. What they needed to do now was deal with the situation properly.

Seeing this, Lin Yan also understood what had happened. The owner had probably taken Tuanzi out for a walk without informing the two clerks.

But judging from the way the clerks had been working earlier, he had most likely told them — they had simply forgotten.

“I’m really sorry, Meiqiu’s owner.”

Those words — Meiqiu’s owner.

Lin Yan’s mood immediately improved. The corners of his lips lifted so high they almost flew upward, but he still restrained himself.

“It’s fine.”

After that, Lin Yan walked toward the exit.

As he passed the kitten, he glanced at it. Although it looked similar, it was still nowhere near as good as my Meiqiu.

Tuanzi let out a soft meow.

Thinking the cat had somehow heard his thoughts, Lin Yan quickened his pace.

Tuanzi: Take care, handsome.

Lu Heng couldn’t hear everything through the carrier, but a cat’s voice was sharp enough to slip through the fabric, and that meow rang painfully clear in his ears.

Lu Heng also meowed back: Get lost. Didn’t you see my owner wasn’t interested in you?

Lu Heng: …Wait, this is a male cat.

Good, good. For a moment, Lu Heng had thought his chastity was about to be sacrificed today.

He knew that mating was an instinct granted by nature, and that male cats responded passively to heat. If he had encountered a female cat in heat today, he honestly wasn’t sure he would have been able to resist that instinct and preserve his “virtue.

Lu Heng needed to think of a solution. Otherwise, if Lin Yan couldn’t even afford food, his situation would be miserable.

A clerk ran out and stopped Lin Yan, handing him several cans of cat food.

“We’re really sorry, Meiqiu’s owner. We were just worried the cat had truly gone missing. I noticed you bought this brand last time, so please take these as compensation.”

“It’s fine. You were only worried about the cat,” Lin Yan said, refusing the cans. His mood was far better than when he had arrived, and he could finally go home at ease. Just as he was about to leave, he added, “Those cans contain appetite stimulants. It’s better not to feed them to the cats anymore.”

My Meiqiu wouldn’t eat that stuff anyway.

Lin Yan planned to go home and cook for Meiqiu himself.

That was the plan.

But when he got home, Meiqiu ignored him.
